The Institute for Family Health Goes-Live with a Bi-directional Connection in the Hudson Valley
June 11th, 2015
The Institute for Family Health (IFH) is now connected to HealthlinkNY’s Health Information Exchange (HIE) with a bi-directional connection.
HealthlinkNY’s reach continues to expand as more practices are connecting to the HIE. The Institute for Family Health is now live with a bi-directional Consolidated Clinical Document Architecture exchange (CCD-A). This type of connection allows IFH to send patient data to and from the HIE securely through their electronic health record (EHR) system.
IFH is a Federally-Qualified Health Center (FQHC), consisting of 26 locations throughout Manhattan, the Bronx and Hudson Valley. Originally established as a small non-profit organization in 1983, IFH has since grown to become one of the largest community health centers in New York State, serving over 94,000 patients.
IFH specializes in high quality, patient-centered primary care for all ages, as well as mental health, dental care, social work and several other services. In addition to operating health centers, IFH uses its expertise and resources to address racial and ethnic disparities.
IFH stays up to date with advances in health information technology, as the facility continues to develop health improvements for the communities it serves.
The Institute is committed to improving the health care system, particularly for individuals and communities who historically have had limited access to care. In 2002, IFH adopted an electronic health records (EHR) system, becoming one of the first community health centers in the U.S. to do so.
The bi-directional connection at IFH allows for immediate access and increased availability to patient data. It also increases efficiency and communication with area providers, allowing for immediate access when time is of the essence.
When asked about the benefits that the HIE will bring to the Institute, Virna Little, Senior VP Psychosocial Services and Community Affairs said, “As we serve more and more patients, the health information exchange (HIE) will help our staff work more efficiently and accurately. It will also give our patients more control of their health by giving them simplified and secure access to their medical records.”
With this partnership, HealthlinkNY is able to help strengthen the great initiative and care that IFH already delivers to its community and patient base.
