Discover the Future of Health Care: Intern at HealthlinkNY this Summer or Fall
May 12th, 2016
There’s plenty to do and learn when you intern at HealthlinkNY, as Rebecca Palombo found out.
How many people does it take to run a Health Information Exchange? A lot, discovered Rebecca Palombo, who just completed her internship at HealthlinkNY. During her internship, she shadowed many of them: Project Managers, Deployment Coordinators, the Technology Team, staff members working the Help Desk, Compliance, as well as Programs and Services. Palombo attended meetings, worked on projects, and learned every facet of the HealthlinkNY HIE.
“This has been the absolute best experience for me and my personal career goals,” says Palombo, who graduates this month from SUNY Broome Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Health Information Technology.” I have learned so much in the short time that I have been here. The knowledge the IT team has is amazing, and getting to see how everything works on the back end has been a great experience.”
HealthlinkNY hosts interns throughout the year. For instance, Rebecca fulfilled her clinical experience requirements for her degree. Other interns have assisted with special projects. No experience is required, but curiosity, intelligence, and energy are a must.
“HealthlinkNY finds great use in bringing on our upcoming medical professionals for an inside look at the health information exchange and its benefits to the medical community,” says Christina Galanis, president and CEO of HealthlinkNY.
HealthlinkNY is currently accepting applications for the summer and fall. And who knows, it might lead to something more permanent. Palombo is eager to work at HealthlinkNY if a position opens. “I would like to personally thank everyone at HealthlinkNY for this great opportunity. I look forward to the possibility of working here in the future,” she adds.
